Students In Need of Volunteer Hours

Volunteer!

Shelter to Home, Inc.'s main focus is to work with local shelters/pounds who simply don't have the room to take all the animals they encounter.  Our frustrations parallel the shelters/pounds as we often don't have enough foster homes to rescue all the animals.  Foster homes are critical to making a difference in the number of animals killed each year.

Why is it so great to be a foster home with Shelter to Home, Inc?

Foster Homes

· We allow our foster homes to screen potential adopters and decide upon which adopter is best suited for their foster pet based on our adoption guidelines.  We know that no one knows the animal's needs better than the person who cares for it daily.  Most of our foster homes complete the adoption process from beginning to end independently.

· We encourage (but do not require) our foster homes to go to the pounds and pick out their next foster pet.  Although this is sometimes time prohibitive and/or emotionally overwhelming, we know that only the foster home will know which foster pet will fit best into their home.

· We do not require our foster homes to give up a day every weekend for adoption events.  If the foster home is unable to attend, we usually have someone that can take the animal to the event instead.

· We pay for 100% of the vet bills and will never ask you to put out money to care for the foster pet's medical needs. We also provide donated items such as food and litter when they are available.

· We are professional and always available for advice and support of our foster families.

Are you looking to fulfill hours for National Honor Society or QUEST class? Do you need to do hours of community service for a project?   Why not help the animals with Shelter to Home, Inc and get your hours at the same time?   Volunteer ideas for students:

· Assist at an adoption events by talking to adopters, handing out flyers, and cleaning cages.

· Hold a garage sale, pop can drive, or change collection drive and donate the proceeds to Shelter to Home, Inc.

·  Go door-to-door in your neighborhood and collect cat and dog food for animals with Shelter to Home, Inc.

·  Become a foster parent [This must be a family supported decision.]

We welcome any ideas students have in addition to those listed above. We LOVE having students help us, because that helps the animals. Volunteer students under age 18, must have a waiver signed by their parents before they start volunteering.   Shelter to Home, Inc. is happy to provide volunteer students with a letter for their school or teacher about what they did to volunteer and help animals.
